Over the recent years since the COVID-19 outbreak, working from home became really popular. A Garden Room is a perfect solution if you are looking to have your own private space and you are tired of the interrupted zoom calls!
The beauty of a garden room is that once it`s built it`s pretty much like a room in your house and all you need to do in most cases to change the use is to refurnish it or move things around.
Is it insulated?
Let`s talk some of the standard specifications that we get asked the most about.
All of our garden rooms that we design includes a minimum of 100mm insulation in the whole building including the roof and the floor. This can be configured in different ways, dependent on your needs for use and/or the size of the building.
These garden rooms also include a separate fuse board and electricity installed with a minimum of 1 sockets on each wall and your chosen lights. We do this all in-house and you don`t need to worry about dealing with other contractors.
The foundations: Each garden has it`s own challenges, so this can vary, although the most common base we use is reinforced concrete. In some cases ground screws might be used if the garden room is placed around large tree roots or the excavation/construction of the base is not feasible.
Doors and Windows: We include aluminium bi-fold or french doors in our spec and also allow for UPVC Windows, the size of this will depend on the size of the building.
Our standard buildings come with the finishing of the interior as well. This always includes the plaster boarding, plastering and decorating work. You will be able to choose your flooring when we design the garden room, many options will be available such as tiling or laminate flooring.
The Framing: We use timber to build our garden rooms. This is cost effective and has excellent insulation properties and allows for more insulation to be added reducing the need to heat or cool excessively.
It also comes with internet access as standard and the exterior of the building can range from Siberian larch to Red Cedar and Composite Products.
Will I need planning permission for my garden room?
In most cases you won`t need planning permission, however there are rules to abide by such as the height of the building which is 2.5m for flat roofs and 3m for pitched roof, although these are the common rules, ensure that you check with your local authority as these can vary.
How long does it take to build a garden room?
Our garden room builds usually range anywhere from 2-5 weeks, depending on the amount of people installing, the size and specifications required.
Do I need heating in my garden room?
Our garden rooms come with a digital, wall mounted glass heater as standard.
